To help you understand the basics of this technology and its influence on the product we will briefly introduce you to the main aspects and featurees of this technique. Different materials, such as timber, metal, plastic in different shapes and sizes have different timbre when used as music instruments. Timbre is a vital aspect of any musical instrument. After many years of experimenting and exploring how different types of timber react to frequencies and sounds we have established a few unique rules that we follow when making our drums. Applying these rules to individually selected parts of our drums we have achieved the results we aimed for! A sustained the natural sound timber while also expanding its own tone color and quality. In other words we give our drums a `voice. First, we define the fundamental frequency of a laid out sheet of timber. We also note the frequency of resonance which becomes twice as low when the sheet is rolled in a cylinder and drumheads are applied. Then we continuously vibrate and stimulate the material with a fundamental frequency and it's six overtones at different levels of loudness (dB). Wood Vibe Technology gives us the option to process different types of drums in a variety of ways to achieve the necessary results. For example, the overtones of our snare drum are louder than its fundamental frequency. 4 STAGES 1. Material Testing The resonance of each type and size of timber is different. Every layer of the shell materials is put through frequency tests horizontally. Horizontal placement allows sound waves to travel through more efficiently. 2.First gluing/laid out While the three layers of 0.5mm wood fiber are being glued together a specially installed speaker in the main production table consistently inducing sound waves through the material. Applying special technique, there is no contact between the material and the source of the sound wave allowing waves to travel through air. Gluing lasts for several hours to establish a sound wave influenced gluing pattern between the materials. 3.Second gluing/cylinder Wood bending and the second gluing begins when the three parts of 1.5mm (3x 0.5mm) laminated timber have cured. Another specially installed speaker built inside the machine sends sound waves through the materials, establishing an ideal gluing pattern. Our bending technique and the pattern used for our drums has developed through many years of practice and experimentation. 4.Real time testing The shell of each drum is sanded and finished. All necessary metal parts are attached and the upper drum hoop and drum head are installed. We attach the drum to the Wood Vibe processing table which in turn becomes the lower hoop of the drum. The drum is then submitted to 48 hours of resonance testing. Our Wood Vibe table performs a series of vibrations to simulate drummerlike use of the drum. This process enables the drum to achieve its optimal acoustic sound. The drum in fact “matures” as it is being tested. 48 HOURS A majority of drummers will agree that, just like a good bottle of wine, quality drums sound better and better as they age. This is done mainly for one reason. When played regularly and often, drums mature in timbre and tone color. They become well shaped and established in the hands of their owner. Though you can’t apply this theory to all types of instruments, it is believed that the majority of handmade instruments will indeed perform better the more they are used. Handmade instruments carry with them the sense of inspiration of the maker and the potential to develop while aging. We believe that working in harmony with nature and applying our own experienced expertise will lead us to a better, more substantial way of drumming.
